About Us
| Food Runners CT is a volunteer organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in Connecticut. While there are many fantastic food programs and pantries in our state that collect and distribute non-perishables, Food Runners provides a unique 'food rescue' service by relaying perishable and prepared foods to community organizations that feed families. | ![]() |
Food Runners CT is a non-profit 501.c3 organization. All food and financial donations are tax deductible, so donate today! We are strictly a volunteer organization, every dollar donated is used to support our mission.
History
While driving to work one day, I heard a story on NPR about Food Runners in San Francisco. The concept sounded simple, relay excess food to those in need. Why wasn't there such a program like this in CT? I felt compelled that morning to call Mary Risely, the founder of Food Runners, to see how she got started. Needless to say the call went extremely well. With her guidance and generous support, as well as assistance from CULI at UConn School of Law, Food Runners CT was formed in June of 2009. Many thanks to Mary, the CULI team, and all the friends and volunteers that have helped make Food Runners CT a success!
